Highlighting Changemakers during the Pandemic - Kizito Ousuman Gayira

I'm Kizito Ousuman Gayira, founder of Black-fam foundation Uganda. I'm a student who has always had a dream of changing lives of young souls that live on streets and slums in my locality. I become a community activist when I decided to find out why children left their homes to choose to stay on the streets. A friend who was a classmate who used to stay on streets took me to where he used to stay with his fellows. This created a bond with them and I learnt how they survived.

Black-fam foundation changes the lives of street children by sharing the little we have with them, counselling them about not using drugs, about going back home, teaching them their rights. I have supportive friends who volunteer with Black-fam. We have a slogan ‘‘helping each other at all times’’. Street children face many issues like hunger and infections but left home because they faced violence. Most of them have talents such as singing, football, dancing, and athletics. They would love to have an education but can't afford it. We would like to re-home them buts it's so difficult financially even though we know the kids are willing to become productive citizens.

Other youth interested in being active should first have love for one another, be trustworthy and kind to others. Always love what you do. The most important SDG is 4 because its through quality education that we can change lives and make a better world. Education governs everything. Through the COVID-19 pandemic I'm trying to teach people to wash hands effectively and avoid unnecessary movements.

I'm so grateful for this opportunity of expression. Thank you. For more information and assistance, +254752669014 (whatsapp) +256708234735 (mobile)
